Netherlands PhD Reliability of High Voltage Transistors University of Twente - scholarships-netherlands.blogspot.com

Netherlands PhD Reliability of High Voltage Transistors University of Twente
The chosen candidate will end up as an expert on the physics and long-term behavior of silicon-based high voltage transistors. He or she will work closely together with the Dutch company NXP Semiconductors manufacturing these devices. These devices play a key role in many modern electronic systems such as hybrid cars.
Reliability is of essential importance in such transistors. This project aims to determine and investigate the main degradation mechanisms that are responsible for failure of high voltage transistor switches. The research team will approach the challenge by experimentation, analysis and modeling. Based on the findings, methods to increase reliability will be defined and tested. During the project, these methods will be implemented in novel high voltage switch designs with increased lifetime, which will be manufactured at NXP. Moreover accelerated lifetime tests will be developed that can be used for product qualification. By improving switch design and by preventing degradation this project will help to pave the way for increasing the performance and reliability of high voltage switches. The project is cofunded by PointOne (www.pointone.nl) and NXPSemiconductors ( www.nxp.com). Requirements
The ideal candidate has an M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering (or Applied Physics), with proven affinity towards experimentation and microtechnology devices. In addition he/she masters the English language very well; and has good communication skills, both verbal and in writing.

Organisation
The University of Twente. We stand for life sciences and technology. High tech and human touch. Education and research that matter. New technology which drives change, innovation and progress in society. The University ofTwente is the only campus university in the Netherlands; divided over six faculties we provide more than fifty educational programmes. The University ofTwente has a strong focus on personal development and talented researchers are given scope for carrying out pioneering research.
In the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EWI) is the place where these three disciplines shape Information and Communication Technology at the University of Twente. ICT is more than communication. In almost every product we use mathematics, electronics and computer technology are present, and ICT now contributes to all of societies’ activities. It is no longer about gadgets that we do or do not want to use. The real integration of ICT is just beginning. What we need is more intelligence in our systems and improvement of their natural interaction with humans.
